Canada Study Visa Band Requirements

In order to qualify for a study permit, you must show the officer that you meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act IRPA and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations and that you will be in Canada for a temporary stay only.

You must also:

  • Satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies;
  • Have a letter of acceptance from an educational institution;
  • Prove that you have money for the duration of your stay in Canada to pay for:
  • Tuition fees
  • Living expenses for yourself and accompanying family members
  • Transportation costs to and from Canada for yourself and accompanying family members
  • Be law-abiding and have no record of criminal activity you may be asked to provide a Police Clearance Certificate;
  • Produce any additional documents requested by the officer to establish your admissibility;
  • Not be a risk to the security of Canada;
  • Be in good health complete a medical examination, if required.

Canada Study Visa Financial Requirement

As a general rule an applicant has to show the first years tuition varies from university to university and 1 years living expenses of $10K excluding Quebec.

If you are applying for a university inside Quebec than tuition fee plus $11K

  • All provinces except Quebec per year: Tuition fee plus $10,000
  • Quebec per year: Tuition fee plus $11,000

What is IELTS band score?

To get a student visa certain score has to be achieved in IELTS. The final score given to an applicant is divided from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average produces applicants overall band score. An applicant can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) bands in every part of the test

Band 7 Good user You have an operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally you handle complex language well and understand detailed reasoning.
Band 6 Competent user Generally you have an effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings. You can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
Band 5 Modest user You have a partial command of the language, and cope with overall meaning in most situations, although you are likely to make many mistakes. You should be able to handle basic communication in your own field.
Band 4 Limited user Your basic competence is limited to familiar situations. You frequently show problems in understanding and expression. You are not able to use complex language.
Band 3 Extremely limited user You convey and understand only general meaning in very familiar situations. There are frequent breakdowns in communication.
